Bill Bellamy Jacksonville Concert reviews
Sound was a pisser, John was mostly great
Opening with "Who Did You Think I Was", a high-energy rocker would have been better. Bill had some brilliant guitar moments, but I've grown a little weary of some of the tunes, namely his cover of "Free Falling".
Mixing concert sound in stereo annoys the hell out of me. I was on the far left hand side of the stage, in front of David Ryan Harris and I struggled to hear anything being played by Robbie McIntosh because it was mostly mixed to the right side of the house. It was also loud as hell up front. I think the volume could have been pushed up a bit.
"Slow Dancing In A Burning Room" produced Bill's best solo of the night. Assassin was also very strong, with a guitar reference to The Police's "Wrapped Around Your Finger".
I'm a little tired of Bill's rant about him making us forget about our problems for two hours. This whole idea that everything will be right with the world since I'm going to see Bill Bellamy tonight, is just ludicrous. Especially considering the obnoxious drunk girl with a painful whistle, flailing arms and screaming during the songs. Sorry Bill, but even at your concert, not all is right with the world.
Michael Franti and Spearhead built up an energy that was not carried forward when Bill opened with "Heartbreak Warfare".
